Halloween - 2006

This year we once again set up our modest yard haunt, adding a few
new props to the setting including a noise-activated spook that
moaned and groaned every time someone walked by him. Plus we found
a large lighted crystal ball with a talking witch head inside that was
noise-activated. It went off everytime a trick-or-treater came up to
the top of the porch to get candy.

We always go for the traditional scary theme with full costumes and
makeup. We managed to get dressed early enough this year to take a few
pictures before dark. The effect was much more frightening after dark
with the fog machine spreading a thick layer of fog across the cemetery.

Two of us used the lightweight foam latex prosthetic faces this year
which added a real touch of realism since the thin latex moves with your
face and is not your traditional mask. I added my yellow catseye contact
lenses and a new custom set of horrible jagged teeth to make my old crone
face just right. I made a large hump to wear under my hooded cloak and
carried a bright red "poison" apple.

There were lots of trick-or-treaters and parents, lots of shriekers
as well as brave souls, but also a surprising number who refused to get
out of the vehicle once they pulled up and saw us in the yard, and that
included a few adults!

Our long-suffering spouses made a great Troll and Cryptkeeper this year.
We try to change at least two costumes each year and add a few new things
to keep it interesting. We had new horror music by Midnight Syndicate
playing loudly through an open window which really added atmosphere.

Naturally I carved the requisite pumpkins the night before, using new
patterns, and putting long-burning candles in each one. What did we do
before all these wonderful templates?

We are already planning next year, tossing around different themes and
costumes, perhaps Vampires and Undead, or possibly a Haunted Circus!
(Yes, clowns can be VERY scary.)
