Halloween - 2008

2008 was a "back to basics" Halloween. Scary creatures were the order
of the day (and night). I worked on several creations thoughout the year
so we wouldn't disappoint those who come back year after year wondering
what new spooky things we have up our sleeve.

Our four creatures for '08 included a traditional Vampire, the Devil
himself, a howling Werewolf, and a fantastic Swamp Thing.

The fish-faced swamp creature was my latest creation, using a hooded robe,
torn netting, and lots of fake seaweed-looking plants sewn onto the robe.
The face is a new latex foam prosthetic that glues directly to the face for
realism and comfort. We painted it with theatrical makeup ahead of time.

There were cars lined up on our cul-de-sac, but many would not even get out
of their cars once they got close and saw our scary assortment of monsters.
The shrieks and screams of those who braved the walk up to the candy cauldron
could be heard for blocks.

The vampire wings were a great find this year. Not only did they have a
12 foot wing span, but they had special pull cords enabling them to open
and close. Cats-eye contact lenses and FX teeth made the look complete.
Satan was the perfect pairing for our resident vampire.

The werewolf was on the prowl, occasionally throwing up his head and
howling at the moon. The mask had a movable jaw that added realism.
The costume was made of fake fur, and hands and feet were good quality
latex with fur attached.

New jack-o-lanterns graced the front of the house and our graveyard.
Carving them all the night before was a chore, but well worth the effort.

What will we do next year? Hmmmmm. We are still kicking that around.
Be sure to come back and see us. We are hoping to build some new props
including a wrought-iron cemetery fence, additional fog machine, and new
music by Nox Arcana, one of the coolest dark music groups around.
